Literature is an important cultural product of a society. And the study of English literature offers insights into the worldviews of different societies. The Department of English at Christ University concentrates on providing an overview of Literature from aesthetic, linguistic, socio-political and cultural contexts. The students of literature are encouraged to develop a unique subjective objectivity that helps them in self-exploration and self realization.
The curriculum for both UG and PG programmes develops the rich talents of students, offers near industry environment and is contemporarily relevant, connecting to every aspect of society. Headed by Prof. John J Kennedy and ably supported by a dedicated fraternity of teachers the department continues to strive, explore and achieve.

A PhD program in English generally prepares graduates for teaching and research oriented career as an English professor for a college or university. Research scholars are usually required to choose a specialization within the degree program, such as literary theory, professional writing, rhetoric, linguistic or the study of a specific group or a major period of literature.
